The London Chop House: Reviews & Ratings
Steaks and sides were cooked to perfection. Staff and service (shoutout to Nadine!) was top-tier, and the jazzy atmosphere was such a cool experience! Thank you guys for making our visit a memorable one for the ages!
The crab cake is probably the best I've ever had. However the steaks were good but not the greatest. I think the venue is special definitely a place you have to check out. I'd recommend going maybe not on a weekend when they're extremely busy. I had the short rib and also the filet. The brussel sprouts were also excellent.
There is not a single thing I am able to say about my overall experience I did not enjoy. The staff were so helpful, friendly, and wonderful to be with. Dinner was fantastic. To start we ordered the pork belly and there isn’t anything I would change about the dish. Our mains were the Australian Wagyu New York Strip and the Lamb Chops. Both made perfectly to order. Sides included the Brussel sprouts, wonderful and crispy and possibly one of the best versions of Mac and cheese we have ever had. For dessert we ordered the apple cheesecake which was not heavy but light and highly enjoyable. There are multiple special menu items not listed on the menu. We ordered mock-tails as drinks. The Fauxjito was just okay. I wish it had a stronger berry flavor. It tasted just of mint and soda water. The other was the strawberry peach lemonade, which is super tasty! Highly recommend. Other notes: Valet is $17, and there is a door man so it’s nice to bring cash for tips. It apparently is also an option to have valet added to your tab, which is a nice touch.
I've been wanting to dine at the London Chop House downtown Detroit for a while and finally fit it into my travel plans. This restaurant has an upscale, old-school steakhouse vibe, featuring a great wine list, live jazz music, and exceptional service. The waitstaff are professionals and have mastered the skill of being present when needed without intruding or interrupting table conversation. The food was as advertised; we ordered salads, soups, the fillets with sides of mushrooms, asparagus, and mac n' cheese. The steaks were prepared perfectly and the mac n' cheese went quickly. I highly recommend the London Chop House and the City of Detroit! Looking forward to my next visit.
There are restaurants you go to for the food, and there are restaurants you go to for the experience, and then every once in a while there's a place that absolutely nails both and you leave feeling like you got away with something. London Chop House is that place. Walking down into the dining room feels like stepping into a different era entirely, all dark wood paneling, leather booths, soft lighting and live jazz at a volume that lets you actually have a conversation. The history of this building wraps around you before you've even ordered a drink, and it sets a tone the kitchen more than lives up to. We started with the Lump Crab Cake, which came with an orange and honey aioli, radicchio and arugula, tarragon vinaigrette and macadamia nut. It was composed and confident without being fussy about it. From there we moved to the Berkshire Pork Belly, served with crispy parsnip, apple and bourbon compote, maple syrup and rosemary. That compote is doing serious work. Sweet, warm, just slightly boozy, it turned what could've been a straightforward pork dish into something worth talking about on the drive home. Then came the Steak Tartare, finished with a porcini vinaigrette, poached egg, shallot, frisée and crostini. Rich and earthy and exactly the kind of thing you want to eat slowly while the piano player works through something you half recognize. Service was attentive without being intrusive, the cocktail list is well worth exploring before you even think about wine, and the whole evening moved at a pace that felt intentional rather than rushed. This is a special occasion restaurant that also happens to be good enough to justify inventing special occasions.
First time coming here. We were very impressed overall! The food tasted amazing, service was great. Sadly didn’t have time to check out the cigar lounge but we will be back! The one thing I will sing it for is they don’t really enforce the dress code , we saw someone walk in with jeans.
Finally had the privilege of trying out the London Chop House in downtown Detroit, a steakhouse institution right here in Michigan. Opened in 1938, this place hosted all the big wigs peak Detroit had to entertain before closing in 1991. It was then reopened in 2012 and thank GOD for that because this place is absolutely spectacular! It checks off all the marks of a great American steakhouse. Dark woods and brass, low lighting, relaxing golden-era jazz and crooner music, gorgeous cocktails, appetizers, steaks, and my favorite, service. What stood out in this particular steakhouse were a few things: its pork belly in substitute of a traditional bacon, their steaks were given a peppered crust instead of just salt, and creamed spinach wasn't on the menu (luckily, their staff was kind enough to supply us one a plate of some!). Their Mac and cheese was not to be missed, but the absolute standout of the night was their carrot cake! Hands down the BEST carrot cake I've ever had, and despite the beautifully prepared dry-aged steaks, live music, and wonderful service, I'd come back for just that cake alone. Thankful Detroit has such a wonderful establishment!
Service and atmosphere were great! Westholme Wagyu Ribeye was great, really liked the seasoning. Caviar was great also. Savannah lemonade was really good.
